Robert Simon opened up the first weekend of his 100th year at Lake Anne, celebrating with members of the community he founded. Simon, who celebrated his 99th birthday Wednesday, April 10, spent Saturday, April 13, surrounded by well wishers at the 10th annual Founder’s Day Celebration.

“I’ve been here since 1941 and I love this place. I rode horseback from here to Landon School and spent my summers farming,” said Bob Hanson, 91, recalling the days when Potomac was primarily farming and fox hunting country. Nearly 75 years ago Hanson’s parents, Minna and William Hanson, bought the original property and named it Mt. Prospect Farms.

Director Retires On a Happy Note

On Sunday, May 20, at NOVA, Robert (Bob) Hegerich directed The Wakefield Chorale for the last time. After 30 years of leadership, he stepped down and will start a new phase in his life, yet to be announced. With his unique one-finger style of directing, he will be missed not only by the 70 plus singers of all ages (from 13 to 90) but the many senior citizens we sang for in the senior residences all over Northern Virginia.
