Facts About Rec Center Still Needed

To the Editor: I am writing in response to Bob Simon's letter ["Facts About the Rec Center," July 24-30, 2013] regarding the Rec Center planned for Reston by the Reston Community Center (RCC). While I understand Bob thinks that there has been misinformation about the Rec Center, I feel there has not been enough information available about the center, primarily around the finances. The current proposal commits Reston taxpayers to paying the full capital and operating expenses of this $33 million center, while other centers are supported in full by the county

Gov. Bob McDonnell has appointed Alexandria resident Lt. Gen. John R. (Bob) Wood (ret.) to Virginia's newly formed Commission on Military Installations and Defense Activities. “I am most concerned about preserving jobs here in Virginia,” said Wood, a graduate of T.C. Williams High School and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Mary Boss Howard, 81, of Reston, Dies

Mary Howard was born April 18, 1933 in Grand Rapids, Mich. She became the 219th resident of Reston in 1965, living here until her death on Feb. 26, 2015. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Bob Howard, son Mark and daughter-in-law Lisa Lim, a daughter, stepson Jerry Howard, brother Bruce Boss, sister Pam Hietanen, and stepbrothers Paul and Dale Hietanen.
