Oakton Dentist Indicted
Hamada Makarita, 50, of Oakton, has been charged in a 15-count indictment of using his position as a dentist to illegally distribute prescription pills to patients, employees and women he dated. He was also charged with allegedly using the identity of another dentist to fraudulently bill an insurance company of more than $160,000 in claims.
Madeira Student Reaches Out to Orphans in Thailand
Charlotte Heffelmire, of Vienna, is a freshman at the Madeira School and spent her spring break in the tropics, but not to sunbathe and enjoy the beach. Instead, she presented several thousand dollars to the Pattaya Orphanage near the Gulf of Siam in Thailand. For the last several years Charlotte has been working and saving her money as well as collecting donations to help the orphans in Thailand.
Langley Reaches Northern Region Final with Win over Oakton
Saxons go on to defeat Chantilly in finals.
The Langley Saxons defeated the Oakton Cougars in a Northern Region boys’ lacrosse semifinals playoff game last Thursday, May 24. As a result, the Saxons booked their passage to the Northern Region boys’ finals the following day (Friday, May 25 versus Chantilly) and also earned an automatic seeding for the upcoming Virginia High School League (VHSL) state playoffs for the fourth year running.

The Madison Warhawks' girls softball team fell behind early to the McLean Highlanders in a semifinals game of the Liberty District Tournament last Friday evening before rallying late to claim a 7-3 victory.

A Musical About Tough Times
1st Stage present ‘Flora the Red Menace.’
It is daring of 1st Stage to take up the not often produced musical "Flora the Red Menace." It is a show that ran for only 87 performances in mid 1965. It is a musical about out-of-work actors putting on a musical about the search for love and jobs set in the Depression when lives were hurting.
Tysons Partnership Names Executive Director
Group brings all parties together to plan for Tysons Corner redevelopment.
The Tysons Partnership, a nonprofit formed to promote the development of Tysons Corner around the Metro and beyond, has selected Michael Caplin as its executive director. Caplin, a 16-year resident of McLean, is an attorney and chair of the Global Advisory Board at the George Mason University Center for Social Entrepreneurship.

Three-day Memorial Day weekend festival hits town on May 26.
It’s back, and more fun-filled and family-friendly than ever … It’s the annual three-day ViVa! Vienna! Memorial Day weekend festival sponsored by the Vienna Rotary Club, abundant with more than 325 vendors, all-day free live entertainment and 24 kid-friendly amusement rides. The Historic Church Street corridor closes down completely on May 27 and 28 when the area hums with festival life. On May 26, opening day of ViVa! Vienna!, Church Street remains open. Only amusement rides and the food court are operational on opening day.
