The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna Police Department from Aug. 10 – Aug. 16, 2018.
INCIDENTS
Forgery -- 600 Block Frederick Street, SW Between June 30 at 12 a.m. and July 6 at 11:59 p.m. A resident reported that a family member had stolen some of his checks then fraudulently forged and cashed them.
Animal Case – Quarantine -- 500 Block Woodland Court, NW July 29, 9 p.m. A resident’s daughter was bitten by a dog they recently adopted. The resident has turned ownership of the dog over to a relative in Delaware. ACO Barker notified the Sussex County, Delaware Animal Control who will follow up with a quarantine on the dog.
Police Service -- Sunoco Gas Station 102 Maple Avenue, West Aug. 5, 9:30 p.m. An employee advised a driver filled their gas tank, paid for the gas, then drove away with the nozzle still in their vehicle.
Suspicious Event -- 600 Tazewell Road, NW Aug. 10, 12 p.m. A resident believes her computer may have been hacked after she sought online assistance for some computer issues. The resident reported some of her files, including tax files, are now missing from her computer.
Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated -- Nutley Street near the Route 66 eastbound ramp Aug. 11, 2:45 a.m. PFC Williams observed a vehicle with defective equipment and initiated a traffic stop. Upon the officer’s interaction with the driver, he detected signs of impairment and observed an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. The man failed to successfully complete a series of sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. He was transported to the Vienna Police station where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis, however, he refused. PFC Williams transported the 25-year-old man from Seminary Road in Alexandria to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. The man was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Operating a Vehicle with an Open Container of Alcohol and Refusal.
Trespassing -- Whole Foods 143 Maple Avenue, East Aug. 12, 8:57 p.m. An employee reported a man who was disorderly and confrontational with other customers. Officers spoke to the man who agreed to leave the property.
Vehicle Tampering -- 300 Block Windover Avenue, NW Aug. 13 between 12 a.m. and 7 a.m. A resident advised someone entered his unlocked vehicle and rummaged through it. A children’s ball cap and some loose change were missing.
Police Service -- Oak Street, SW Aug. 13, 2:56 a.m. Officers responded to check on the welfare of a juvenile who had made concerning statements on the telephone to an ex-boyfriend. The juvenile and her father met with the officers, and it was determined the juvenile was not in need of immediate assistance. Plans were made with the father to seek treatment for his daughter the following day.
Police Service -- 300 Block Park Street, NE Aug.13, 7:30 p.m. Officers responded to a welfare check on a resident. The resident’s sister was concerned after her brother made alarming statements to a friend. MPO Shaw transported the resident to an area facility where an Emergency Custody Order was issued, and the man was held for evaluation and treatment.
Fraud -- 300 Block Maple Avenue, West Aug. 14, 11 a.m. A doctor was notified by two pharmacies in Maryland informing him that an unknown man was using his name on fraudulent prescriptions in an attempt to obtain medication.
Welfare Check -- Cottage Street, SW Aug. 15, 8:14 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a woman who was upset after an argument with her ex-boyfriend and was last seen driving on Cottage Street. PFC Williams located the woman and, after speaking with her, determined no further police assistance was needed.
Domestic Dispute -- Center Street, South Aug. 16, 8:36 p.m. A resident reported a verbal dispute he had with his brother over the phone.
CRASHES
Park Street at Moore Avenue, SE -- Aug. 9, 4:24 p.m. Vehicle-2 was stopped at the stop sign on southbound Park Street at Moore Avenue. Vehicle-1 was traveling southbound on Park Street approaching the intersection and failed to stop before striking the rear of Vehicle-2 Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.
300 Block Mill Street, NE -- Aug. 9, 5:19 p.m. A vehicle was left legally parked in a parking lot when it was struck by an unknown vehicle.
Cottage Street and Kingsley Road, SW -- Aug. 10, 1:28 p.m. Vehicle-2 was traveling east on Kingsley Road. After stopping at the stop sign, Driver-2 continued through the intersection. Vehicle-1 was traveling north on Cottage Street, entered the intersection without the right of way, and struck Vehicle-2. Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.
100 Block Maple Avenue, East -- Aug. 11, 11:59 p.m. A vehicle was left legally parked in a parking lot when it was struck by an unknown vehicle.
300 Block Maple Avenue, West -- Aug. 12, 12:39 p.m. A vehicle was left legally parked in a parking lot when it was struck by an unknown vehicle.
100 Block Maple Avenue, West -- Aug. 12, 4:08 p.m. A vehicle was left legally parked in a parking lot when it was struck by an unknown vehicle.
200 Block Maple Avenue, East 1-- Aug. 13, 9:05 a.m. Vehicle-1 was traveling eastbound on Maple Avenue. As the driver attempted to turn right into the parking lot of 225 Maple Avenue, East she struck the curb, causing the passenger’s side front tire to blow out. The vehicle then entered the sidewalk, brushing a Town light pole and coming to a stop in the mulch and brush. There was minor damage to the vehicle and no damage to the Town property.
