The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from Sept. 11 – Sept. 17, 2020.
INCIDENTS
Civil -- 600 Block Yeonas Drive, SW Between April 21 at 7 a.m. and Aug. 25 at 7 a.m. A resident listed her vehicle for sale on Craigslist. A man notified her with an interest in the vehicle. The resident reported the man has failed to comply with the agreement they made.
Forgery -- Vienna Post Office 200 Lawyers Road, NW Between Aug. 30 at 11 a.m. and Sept. 2 at 11 a.m. A citizen placed several pieces of mail into the mailbox at the Post Office. Someone broke into the mailbox and stole the contents. The citizen advised the unknown person then altered, forged, and passed a check that he had mailed.
Open Door -- 100 Block Courthouse Road, SW Sept. 11 between 12:35 p.m. and 1:10 p.m. A realtor reported that a lockbox at a residence was accessed during a time that no one was supposed to be inside the house. Officers found an unsecured door and searched the residence. No one was located in the home and nothing appeared suspicious.
Police Service -- 200 Block Locust Street, SE Sept. 11, 1:43 p.m. A resident called to report an incident that she had already filed a report on. After the officer assured the woman that the report was on file, she agreed to follow up with a magistrate to pursue charges in the case.
Police Service -- 374 Maple Avenue, East, Suite 200 Sept. 11, 1:46 p.m. Officers responded to the building twice during the day for the report of an elderly woman in the offices who was refusing to wear a mask and appeared confused. The officers escorted the woman home both times and spoke to family members about services that are available to assist the woman. Adult Protective Services was also notified to see if they could assist the woman.
Domestic Assault -- Troy Court, SE Sept. 11, 2:02 p.m. Two brothers have had altercations and disagreements in the past regarding the distribution of their deceased parents’ property. One of the men reported that his brother came into the house and began assaulting him. His brother then left the house in a vehicle. The man was advised of the warrant process should he wish to pursue charges against his brother.
Petit Larceny -- 100 Block Dogwood Street, SW Between Sept. 11 at 9:30 p.m. and Sept. 12 at 9:30 a.m. A resident reported that someone stole two folding chairs from her vehicle.
Open Door -- Troy Court, SE Sept. 11, 10:01 p.m. A trustee for the property requested a check of the property. Officers found an unsecured door and searched the house. No one was located at the residence.
Animal Case – Quarantine -- Hope Advanced Veterinary Center 140 Park Street, SE Sept. 12, 11:20 a.m. A dog bit a technician during a medical procedure. The dog was released to go to its home in Reston. The report was forwarded to the Fairfax County Animal Control to follow up on the quarantine.
False Police Report -- 400 Block Branch Road, SE Sept. 12, 12:12 a.m. Officers and fire personnel responded to the report that someone shot a person in the home and set the kitchen on fire. A short time later, a woman and her juvenile daughter exited the home. It was immediately determined that no incident or fire was occurring in the house and that someone intentionally called in the false report.
Arrest – Domestic Assault -- Patrick Street, SE Sept.12 , 12:59 a.m. Officers responded to the report of a domestic assault between a resident and his adult son. Both men reported the other assaulted them and both had visible signs of minor injury. MPO Smith arrested both men and transported them to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where they were each charged with Domestic Assault. Protective Orders were also served against each of the men. The resident was held on an unsecured $3500 bond until sober. The son was held without bond.
Suspicious Event -- ,700 Block Ware Street, SW Sept. 12, 2:50 p.m. A resident reported that he made an online purchase that FedEx stated was delivered; however, the resident never received the package. It is unknown if the package was delivered to the wrong address, or if someone stole the package.
Found Property -- Follin Lane and Maple Avenue, SE Sept. 12, 5:53 p.m. A citizen turned in a set of keys that she found in the roadway.
Found Property -- 1000 Block Park Street, SE Sept. 12, 6:22 p.m. A resident turned in a laptop that she found.
Suspicious Event -- 400 Block Troy Court, SE Sept. 12, 6:53 p.m. An executor of an estate reported an ongoing dispute between two brothers who are inheriting the estate. The executor requested officers search the residence to ensure neither of the men was inside the home.
Petit Larceny -- 200 Block Park Street, SE Between Sept. 14 at 12:01 a.m. and Sept. 15 at 8 a.m. A resident reported a political sign stolen from his yard.
Animal Case – Quarantine -- 600 Block Tazewell Road, NW Sept. 14, 12:20 p.m. The Fairfax County Health Department advised ACO Barker a man was bitten by a puppy that he was considering adopting. The puppy is being temporarily fostered in Town. The foster resident was advised of the 10-day quarantine.
Domestic Dispute -- Shepherdson Lane, NE Sept. 14, 8:50 p.m. A resident reported that her adult son became upset with her earlier in the day. Later, while she was away from the home, she received a video of her son destroying property in the home and making threatening statements. The son left the residence before officers arrived. While the officers were at the residence, the son called his father making homicidal and suicidal threats. A felony warrant charging Destruction of Property was obtained and lookouts were sent to local law enforcement agencies. On Sept. 15, the son was located in Maryland by Montgomery County Police. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation after a drug overdose. Once his treatment is complete, he will remain in custody awaiting extradition on the warrant.
Petit Larceny -- Giant Food 359 Maple Avenue, East Sept. 15, 7 a.m. An employee reported that a former employee stole a beer from the store. The employee was advised of the warrant process should they wish to pursue charges.
Animal Case -- 900 Block Cottage Street, SW Sept. 15, 10:21 a.m. An officer responded to the report of a sick raccoon. The officer found the animal was in grave condition and euthanized the animal.
Found Property -- Vienna Police Station 215 Center Street, South Sept. 15, 12:01 p.m. A key fob was left in the drop box at the police station.
Domestic Dispute -- Beulah Road, NE Sept. 15 6:20 p.m. A resident reported that her teenage son became upset and attempted to leave the home.
Police Service -- 600 Block Niblick Drive, SE Sept. 16, 12:45 p.m. A resident turned in a BB gun and some ammo for destruction.
Assault -- 7-11 537 Maple Avenue, West Sept. 16, 3:15 p.m. An employee from 7-11 came to the station to report that a co-worker assaulted her earlier in the day. The employee stated the co-worker shoved her, causing her to fall, and requiring rescue personnel to respond and transport her to a hospital for treatment. The co-worker stated that there was no assault and that the employee was hit by a door that caused her to fall. The employee was advised of the warrant process should she wish to pursue charges.
Suspicious Person -- Navy Federal Credit Union 820 Follin Lane, SE Sept. 16, 6:39 p.m. Officers responded to the report of a suspicious man. The bank’s security personnel advised the man that he was trespassed from the property and that he may be arrested if he returns.
Trespassing -- Peking Express 103 Center Street, North Sept. 17, 3:37 p.m. An employee reported that a man has been coming into the restaurant for a year and acting disorderly towards the employees. The man’s behaviors were recently becoming more aggressive. Officers located the man in another business. He was trespassed from the restaurant by the employee and was advised that he may be arrested if he returns.
Animal Case -- 200 Block Elm Street, SW Sept. 17, 5:44 p.m. An officer responded to the report of a sick fox. The officer determined the animal was in grave condition and euthanized the fox.
CRASHES
400 Block Maple Avenue, West -- Sept. 14, 3 p.m. Vehicle-1 was traveling westbound on Maple Avenue in the left lane of traffic. Driver-1 crossed over the solid yellow line, into a safety zone to get around stopped traffic. Vehicle-2 was exiting a parking lot at 431 Maple Avenue to turn left. As Vehicle-2 entered the roadway, they were struck in the safety zone by Vehicle-1. Driver-1 was issued a summons for Driving Through a Safety Zone.
Yeonas Park 1319 Ross Drive, SW -- Sept. 16, 8:10 p.m. Vehicle-1 was parked in the parking lot. Driver-1 exited his vehicle to check the trunk, assuming he had left the vehicle’s ignition in park. The vehicle was in reverse and began moving backward from the parking space. The vehicle knocked the driver to the ground, rolled over the curb, down a steep embankment, and came to rest with the rear of the vehicle in the creek. A juvenile passenger who was in the vehicle was not injured.
Kingsley Road and Cottage Street, SW -- Sept. 17, 7:52 p.m. Vehicle-2 was traveling eastbound on Kingsley at Cottage. Vehicle-1 was traveling northbound on Cottage at Kingsley. Both vehicles came to a stop before proceeding into the intersection and colliding.
Nutley Street and Maple Avenue, NW -- Sept. 1,7 9:57 p.m. Vehicle-2 was traveling southbound on Nutley, turning left to go eastbound on Maple with a green traffic light. Vehicle-1 was in the left turn lane on westbound Maple turning left onto Nutley when the two vehicles collided. Driver-1 was issued two summonses charging Failure to Maintain Proper Control and No Driver’s License.
