Opinion: Letter to the Editor: Too Often Blaming the System

Re: “Matrix, Sunlight Discussed at Public Safety Committee,” Connection, November 18-24

James Walkinshaw (Braddock) Vice Chair, Fairfax County Public Safety Committe.e is quoted as saying “does mean there are structures in our society ….that push us towards a justice system that is disproportionate and unequal.” It would have been more correct to say “that there are structures in our society that push us toward disproportionate and unequal”, because it is not the Justice system that is inherently that way. The Justice system (for the most part) is only dealing with what society has fed to it. A good Justice system is not inherently biased. The majority of blame belongs to societal structures that breed the crime. Politicians too often blame the Justice system; that is easier.
