The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from March 8 – March 14, 2019.
INCIDENTS
Petit Larceny -- Giant Food, 359 Maple Avenue, East, Feb. 25 between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. An employee reported a man left the store without paying for several platters of shrimp.
Arrest – Noise Violation -- 362 Maple Avenue, East March 8, 4:52 a.m. Officers responded to the area for a noise complaint. Ofc. Farr observed a garbage truck operator emptying a dumpster in the parking lot. The truck operator, a 59-year-old man from Mattapony Drive in Woodbridge, Va, was advised that he was in violation of the Town’s Noise ordinance and was released on a summons for violating that ordinance.
Assault -- Cigar and More, 320 Maple Avenue, East, March 8, 1 p.m. A civil dispute between a landlord and tenant escalated when the two men shoved each other. Both men were advised of the warrant process should they wish to pursue charges for assault.
Destruction of Property -- Tapawingo Road and Park Street, SE, March 8, 7:45 p.m. A resident advised he was eastbound on Tapawingo Road at the stop sign to turn left onto Park Street when he almost struck a pedestrian in the crosswalk who was walking a dog. The resident stopped to apologize to the pedestrian. However, the pedestrian began yelling at him and kicked his vehicle, causing damage above the front left tire.
Juvenile – Runaway -- Gibson Circle, SW, March 8 between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. A resident reported their teenage daughter left home after an argument. The daughter returned home several hours later.
Arrest – Destruction of Property -- Gibson Circle, SW, March 8, 11:55 p.m. While an officer was speaking to a resident to follow up on Incident, the juvenile was in another part of the house and began having an altercation with other family members. Additional officers responded to assist. During the altercation, the daughter punched holes in the walls. Ofc. Murray transported the daughter to Fairfax Juvenile Intake where a petition was served charging Destruction of Property, and she was placed into Shelter Care.
Natural Death -- 1100 Block Westbriar Drive, NE, March 9 between 12:01 a.m. and 8 a.m. Officers responded with rescue personnel for the report of an elderly man who was unresponsive in his home. Rescue personnel determined the man, who suffered from medical issues, was deceased.
Domestic Dispute -- Saratoga Way, NE, March 9, 10:12 p.m. A resident reported a domestic dispute with his teenage son.
Arrest – Narcotics Violation -- 400 Block Old Courthouse Road, NE, March 10, 12:37 p.m. MPO Lyons observed a driver commit a traffic offense and initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver, MPO Lyons detected an odor of marijuana. The driver was found to have a measurable amount of marijuana. MPO Lyons issued a summons to the 35-year-old woman from Nigel Court in Vienna charging Possession of Marijuana.
Noise Violation -- The Bey Lounge, 303 Mill Street, NE, March 10, 11:25 p.m. A resident reported a complaint of loud music coming from The Bey Lounge. Officers checked the area around the resident’s home and The Bey Lounge but did not observe any noise violation.
Animal Case – Quarantine -- 300 Block Tapawingo Road, SE, March 11, 6:15 p.m. A resident was jogging on the sidewalk in the 300 block of Tapawingo Road when she was bitten on the ankle by a dog who had escaped from his yard. The dog was placed on a 10-day quarantine.
Police Service -- Blair Road, NW, March 11 7:57 p.m. A resident expressed concern over recent communication with her estranged husband.
Vandalism -- Southside Park, 1317 Ross Drive, SW. Between March 11 at 7 a.m. and March 12 at 7 a.m. A citizen reported graffiti in Southside Park.
Juvenile Case -- Moore Avenue, SW, March 11 8:51 p.m. A resident requested assistance with her teenage son who was becoming aggressive toward the family.
Found Property -- 200 Block Maple Avenue, East, March 22 8:56 p.m. An officer observed a bicycle that appeared to have been left in the parking lot. The officer was unable to locate an owner for the bicycle in the shopping center. The bicycle was transported to the police station for safe keeping.
Suspicious Event -- 300 Block Adahi Road, SE, March 11 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. A resident reported that when they returned home from work, they found footprints in the driveway leading from the garage. It did not appear that entry was made to the garage or the home and nothing appeared to have been disturbed.
Suspicious Event -- Vienna Shell, 252 Maple Avenue, West, March 11, 3 p.m. A resident reported that he was walking in the area of the gas station when he had an encounter with a man and woman who were also walking in the area. The man accused the resident of staring at his girlfriend. The citizen stated he saw the man the following day and the man confronted him again.
Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated and Accident -- 200 Block Pleasant Street, SW, March 11, 10:22 p.m. A resident reported hearing a noise, and when she looked outside, she saw a person walking around her vehicle. When officers arrived, they found the resident’s vehicle had been struck by another vehicle. The striking vehicle was still on scene. However, the driver had left an illegible note and left the scene. Officers located the driver walking in the area of Courthouse and Plum. Upon the officer’s interaction with the driver, they detected signs of impairment. Ofc. Farr transported the driver to the police station where he was offered the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis. The 47-year-old man from Tapawingo Road, SW in Vienna was then transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated.
Civil Dispute -- Wolftrap Hotel, 430 Maple Avenue, West, March 12, 2 p.m. Officers responded to a civil dispute between the management and a couple who were checking out of the hotel.
Juvenile Case -- Moorefield Creek Road, SW, March 12, 4:09 p.m. A resident reported that her juvenile son sent her a concerning text message. Officers spoke to the juvenile and his parent and provided them with resources available to assist them.
Civil Dispute -- 400 Block Kingsley Road, SW, March 13, 10:48 a.m. A landlord advised of an issue he has with a tenant. The tenant is renting a room from him through an organization that helps individuals find housing. The tenant was reported to be in breach of his contract with the organization and with the rental agreement. The landlord was advised to contact the Sheriff’s Department for the eviction process.
Found Property -- 500 Block Malcolm Road, NW, March 13, 5:10 p.m. A resident reported a case containing a musical instrument was found next to her mailbox.
Suspicious Person -- 1000 Pickett Road, SW, March 13, 11:28 p.m. A resident reported there was a man at the residence that she wanted to leave. The man was an acquaintance of a tenant who lives there. After the officers spoke to the man, he called for an Uber ride and agreed to leave the home.
Open Door -- 900 Block Cottage Street, SW, March 14, 11:02 a.m. Officers responding to the report of a residential alarm found an open door. The house was checked, and nothing appeared to have been disturbed.
Assault -- Cunningham Park Elementary School, 1001 Park Street, SE, March 14, 2 p.m. The parent of a 4-year-old child in the Head Start program reported that her child is being bullied by another 4-year-old child in the class. The parent advised the latest incident involved the other child hitting her child in the mouth, requiring them to seek medical attention.
Suspicious Event -- 1100 Kings Way Court SW, March 14, 6:05 p.m. A resident reported a man who was soliciting for a roofing company became aggressive with him when he refused their services.
