Gang Task Force Membership

The Vienna Town Council recently gave Police Chief Jim Morris the go ahead to pay the Town’s portion of its FY 2015 funding agreement to belong to the Northern Virginia Regional Gang Task Force. The amount was not to exceed $25,000.

“I receive weekly updates from the Task Force, and participating in it would give us a manpower multiplier should we need it,” Morris explained to the Council members. “It’s something for which we’re getting bang for our buck, and we’re getting half of our money back in vehicle and overtime reimbursements.”

Vienna Mayor's Walking Group

Vienna residents are welcome to join Mayor Laurie DiRocco's walking group. It meets every Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Town Hall, 127 Center St. S. The walks are about 2.5 to 3 miles, with a different route every Friday. The next walk is Sept. 26.

Drug Take-Back Saturday

In conjunction with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and state and local law-enforcement agencies, the Vienna Police Department will hold a drug take-back initiative to remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from local homes. It’s set for this Saturday, Sept. 27, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at Vienna Police Headquarters, 215 Center St. S.

There’ll be a collection site where people may turn in their old, expired, unused, or unwanted medications. Prescription medications, controlled or non-controlled substances and over-the-counter drugs may be turned in anonymously at the collection point inside the station.

People may dispose of medication in its original container or not. Residents are advised to remove any identifying information from the prescription label. Liquid products should remain sealed in their original container to prevent leakage.

Intravenous solutions, injectables and syringes will not be accepted, and commercial businesses, pharmacies or other medical facilities may not use this event as a means to discard expired medications or medical waste.
